Erysipeloid
Erysipeloid is the infectious disease of the skin; it contracts by handling meat or fish infected with the bacterium Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae.
People acquire the infection with infected fish, poultry, shellfish and animals. Infection can be occurred by bacteria enter in the cut on the skin that allows entry of the bacteria.
People who are affected by Erysipeloid include farmers, veterinary surgeons, butchers, fisherman and cooks. Mostly it occurs on the hands and hands appear red and swollen. This disease is also known as Rosenbach erysipeloid.
Causes of Erysipeloid:
The main cause of erysipeloid is microorganism Erysipelothrix rusiopathiae. Microorganism is also called by Erysipelothric insidiosa. Sometimes, it is caused human and animal infections.
Direct contact between traumatized human skin and meat infected with E rusiopathiae give results of erysipeloid. This skin disease is commonly affected butchers, housewives, fishermen, cooks and farmers. The infection of microorganism mostly occurs during the summer.
Symptoms of Erysipeloid:
- Lesions may be warm and tender, it can cause burning and pain.
- Many patients may experience chills, mild fever and malaise.
- It can be turned dark red to purple lesions, it develops tiny blisters.
- It can be found on the forearms, hands and exposed part of the body.
- Patients with severe Erysipeloid may experience such as headache, fever, joint pain, chills or decrease in weight.
Diagnosis
The health care providers will be diagnosed this disease by the appearance on the surface of the skin. In some cases, doctor will ask some questions about symptoms to determining this skin disorder.
Treatment:
All types of Erysipeloid can be treated with penicillin. Other drugs such as ciprofloxacin and cephalosporin are also used to reduce erysipeloid. Patients who affected with allergic from penicillin can be treated rifampicin and erythromycin. Penicillin V potassium is very useful for treatment of Erysipeloid.
