Cellulite Orbital

A severe disease of the tissues that surrounds the eyes containing eyelids, cheek and eyebrow is called as orbital cellulite. This generally happens in the following conditions:

  • Expansion of infectivity from the periorbital formations

  • Straight vaccination of the orbit from shock or surgical procedure

  • Hematogenous increase from bacterium

Causes of Cellulite Orbital

This is a hazardous contamination in kids which is usually developed from organism Hemophilus influenzae and sinus infection. Orbital cellulite is also associated due to other organisms like staphylococcus aureus, streptococcus and more. The following are some possible causes of orbital cellulite:

  • Severe ear infections
  • Pneumonia
  • Inflammation of the epiglottis
  • Meningitis

Risk factors of cellulite orbital

  • Sinus infections
  • Damage to the eyelid which contains bug bites

Signs and symptoms

  • General malaise
  • Eye ache
  • High fever
  • Bulging eyes
  • Reduced vision
  • Child or infant is severely ill or toxic
  • Paralysis of nerves that manage eye actions
  • Chemosis
  • Painful or limited eye actions

Diagnosis of Cellulite Orbital

Physicians do the physical examination of the sufferer to determine the disease which is based on the symptoms, medical history and more. The following tests are also performed to diagnose the disorder:

Sensitivity and blood culture

It is performed to detect whether the microorganisms such as mycobacteria, bacteria or fungus are present in the cells of the blood. A blood sample is taken from the sufferer and then it is tested under laboratory.

Blood count examine

This test is effective to measure the following:

  • Complete amount of hemoglobin in the blood
  • Platelet count
  • Number of white and red blood cells
  • MCV

Spinal Tap

A Spinal tap is useful to find the pressure in the fluid that surrounds the brain and spinal cord and keeps them away from damage.

The following other tests are also performed to detect the cellulite orbital:

  • X-ray of the orbit
  • Blood culture
  • MRI or CT scans of the orbit
  • Throat culture
  • Eye drainage culture
  • Nose drainage culture

Treatment

One must contact the physician in emergency. In some cases, hospitalization is also needed. Four kinds of fluids are provided with antibiotics to the sufferer to reduce the cellulite orbital.

Preventions

  • Untimely treatment of the eyes infection and proper examination must be performed to prevent the kids from the expansion of cellulite orbital.
  • Vaccination through HiB vaccine must be provided to the kids as per the plans to prevent from the Hemophilus contamination.
