Okay, so you have decided to have a Baby Shower Party.  You are either a close friend  of the parent-to-be. In the US, Baby Showers are held for both parents, though men-only shower parties are not uncommon. Even some Jews settled in the US have Baby showers although traditional Jews do not subscribe to the idea. Baby shower are also gaining in popularity in Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America.

Although it would seem that drawing up a guest list is a trifling idea, it really is serious business as missing out on some important friend or relative could cause embarrassment later on and it would take a lot of coaxing and cajoling to heal hurt sentiments. You also have to decide if it will be ‘women’s only’ event or men also will be invited.

Call up the intended guests to enquire what date and time will be convenient to them. Also discuss with the expectant mother whether the date and time is convenient to her too. If you are planning to have plenty of games then having the baby shower in the evening is preferable as people’s spirits are just beginning to soar.  

You must also be sure the budget you have at your disposal. Once you know the budget and the  guest-list has been decided you can begin to make purchases for the party. First of all you can buy the decorations for the party. You can also buy invitation cards.

For the party itself plan on spending around $ 20 per person. So a party with twenty people will cost $ 400. Once the preliminaries have been completed begin deciding about the party itself. It is better to have games to liven up the event. Buy gifts for the games  keeping the invited guests in mind. Buy a gift for every guest nevertheless. It can be in the form of a bag containing small articles the individual can use.

The most important gift of all is the favor or gift that the expectant mother will get. This can be clothes for the mother, considering the fact that she increases in girth, and also baby clothes and possibly a bundle of nappies for the baby to be born.  Other favors could be a perambulator, toys for the baby and the like. In case it is known that twins are expected then, a pair of everything is to be gifted.
