Aromatherapy for Insomnia
Aromatherapy is very effected to treat stress related problems like insomnia. About 15% to 25% of teenagers and adults are affected by insomnia. In some cases, combinations of essential oils are also used to treat insomnia.
Essential oils for insomnia
A bath with essential oils of geranium and roman chamomile will useful for people to unwind before sleeping. One can also take a cup of chamomile tea for decreasing sleepless nights.
Essential oils include Patchouli, Neroli, Marjoram, Camomile, Sandalwood and Ylang ylang are used in treating insomnia.
One should sprinkle a few drops of essential oils on a handkerchief or pillow and add a few drops of these oils to the bathwater for decreasing insomnia and management of sleep.
One should use the following essential oils for insomnia:
Roman chamomile and German
German and Roman Chamomile are very effective for children. It gives relax and reduce insomnia and excessive anxiety. Remember, in some cases, it may cause dermatitis.
Lavender
Lavender is anti-depressant and it may sooth and calm to digestion and nerves. It is useful for lowers blood pressure and reducing pain. Lavender is non-irritant and non- toxic. This essential oil is very effective for reducing tension, insomnia, headache and depression.
Benzoin
Benzoin is warming, relaxing and sedative. It is very effective for emotional exhaustion, bronchitis, tension, coughs and insomnia.
Jasmine
Jasmine is soothing and relaxing. It is expectorant, antidepressant, aphrodisiac and sedative. It is non-irritant and non-toxic. Jasmine is very beneficial for depression, insomnia, nervous exhaustion, breathing difficulties and stress.
Neroli
Neroli is non-toxic, non-irritant and relaxing. This essential oil is very effective for panic, irritability, shock and insomnia.
Melissa
Melissa is uplifting and relaxing. It is very helpful for menstruation, digestion and nervous system. One with depression, indigestion, colds, insomnia, high blood pressure or anxiety, can use Melissa. One should use a small quantity of this essential oil as it may cause irritation of skin.
Sandalwood
Sandalwood is antidepressant, relaxing and aphrodisiac. It is non-irritant and non-toxic. Sandalwood is very beneficial for depression, catarrh, nervous tension, colic and insomnia.
Ylang ylang
Ylang ylang is antidepressant, aphrodisiac and relaxing. It is non-irritant and non-toxic. This essential oil is very effective for treatment of stress, excitability and insomnia.
Sweet marjoram
Sweet marjoram is comforting and warming. It is non-irritant and non-toxic. Sweet marjoram is very effective to treat anxiety, catarrh, muscular pain, headaches, joint pain, colds and insomnia.
